Wholesale sales were definitely affected by the two-week BCGEU strike that occurred in August making some shelves bare as shipments of RTDs stopped. Some consumers may have switched to purchasing in-stock items giving beer sales a larger than normal boost.

Tequila is continuing to be a strong seller in both wholesale and hospitality, so stock up on a good assortment to give your customers more choice.

It is very interesting to note some significant differences between products selling in retail vs. hospitality. US wine is up 23.1% year-over-year in pubs, bars and restaurants, yet down 21.1% YOY in wholesale. It’s good to see the hospitality sector supporting BC wines, yet on the retail side local wine sales declined YOY. Canadian wine is also significantly down in wholesale.
