Word-of-mouth is a powerful marketing tool that builds awareness of your company and gives it credibility. 92% of people believe recommendations from family and friends above all other sources according to Nielsen.

Think how often you hear Google, Starbucks and Amazon. Well-known brands are talked about every day.

With social media, it’s easier than ever to get people talking about your brand. If you have a compelling story to tell, someone can share your story with just a click of a mouse.

Compelling content could be how you’ve provided exceptional service or given substantial cost-savings to a client. That shout out on Twitter can be circulated for a long time. A unique recipe and fabulous photo will be shared by many people on Facebook and Instagram.

Make a hook such as the Refer-a-Friend program, which is used by Envision and Verizon. Dove’s Real Beauty campaign was a great marketing initiative that got many women talking and sharing Dove’s stories.

What can your company do to start people talking about you? Brainstorm with your team and try out multiple ideas. You’ll be sure to develop a great story to get word-of-mouth working for you.
